A Garbage Game

Introduction

This game was created to help people (specifically, residents of Delta, BC) to learn about/review their knowledge of the recycling system! It is a simple game that is easy to play. Please help the Delta recycling team sort the garbage into the correct bins!

How to play

It is recommended to review the recycling guide in the tutorial before beginning the game. It contains helpful information that will lead you to success!

For more information on Delta's recycling system, go to delta.ca/recycle

The game begins when images of garbage start flowing down the conveyor belts. Each conveyor belt leads to a different type of garbage can. To deliver the trash to the correct disposal method, first select the garbage by clicking on it with your mouse (you should be able to see a caption hover over the object), then move it to the lane on its right or left by pressing the 'A' or 'D' key on your keyboard,  respectively.

Each time you sort a piece of trash correctly, your score increases by one. For every 3 pieces of trash that spawns, the speed of the conveyor belts and the spawn rate of trash will increase. You have 3 lives before the game ends.

Have fun sorting garbage!

Note: this is the first game I have made with the Unity game engine so I apologise if it is not very good. Feedback is always appreciated!

Nice! Now there are some tips when I put the item in the wrong place. It might help to pause the game so I can read the tip. Also, maybe the object can be selected as soon as it spawns? Just like last time, I forgot I had to click on it first and thought the A and D keys weren't working. Taking away the extra click might make it easier to get into the game. Ok, nitpicky typos: in the tips that pop up you should say "should have gone into the ____ bin" instead of "went into". Also, in the instructions on page 2, you tell the user to use the "A" and "D" keys - you spelled conveyor. Hope that helps! By the way, I still use your games as exemplars in my classes. Amazing!

Fun game! This is a great way to learn, but it would help to have some feedback about the ones I got wrong. If I try to put a candy wrapper into the blue bin, why isn't that allowed? Maybe it could pause and show me some information about where it should go instead and more importantly, why.

Hi Mr Kung! Thanks for your feedback— that’s a great idea! I’ll definitely incorporate it into my next update :D

Great! Good to see you using Unity and HTML5. I've got to improve my Unity skills.
